One sunny afternoon I set off to sail to Hawaii. As I was sailing through the Pacific Ocean, a terrible storm hit. The boat was rocking back and forth, while waves were crashing against the boat. Somehow when I woke up I was on an abandoned island. This island had palm trees flowing in the wind, white soft sand, and crystal clear water. I built a small tiki hut out of palm tree leaves and bark, and I catch my food with a spear I made. Most of the time, I wake up to the gorgeous sunrise and catch some fish for breakfast. Then I go swimming and hunting for most of my day, and catch more fish for dinner. Lastly, I lay down looking at the stars and fall asleep to the swaying palm trees. I love living on an abandoned island, and I never want to leave this paradise.
Rad Reading – January
In January, I read a book Jenny Han called It’s Not Summer Without You. It’s Not Summer Without You, follows Belly as she tries to navigate a summer that feels completely different from the ones she used to love. After a heartbreaking loss, everything has changed, especially her relationship with Conrad and Jeremiah. When Conrad suddenly disappears, Belly and Jeremiah team up to find him, leading to a trip full of emotions, memories, and unexpected. Along the way, Belly starts to realize growing up means facing change, even when you’re not ready for it.
It’s Not Summer Without You, is the kind of book that totally sucks you in and you feel everything. It’s got all the drama, love triangles, heartbreak, and an adventurous road trip that changes everything. Belly’s emotions are so real, you can relate to the way she’s trying to hold on to the past while figuring out what’s next. Also, the summer vibes and nostalgia make it the perfect book to read by the pool or late at night when you just need to know what happens next. If you love books that make you laugh, cry, and feel everything at once, you need to read this book!
My favorite character is Belly because she’s so real and relatable, especially when it comes to figuring out who she is and what she wants. One trait I love about her is her determination. Even when things are messy, she keeps going and doesn’t give up. A quote that shows this is “I’m not the same person I was before. I’m different. And i’m okay with that.” This quote really significant because it shows that Belly learns to embrace change and being different, even though it’s hard. It shows her strength in accepting who she’s becoming, even if it’s not what she expected. It’s inspiring because we all go through changes, and it’s important to accept them just like she does.
My favorite quote is “You can’t keep looking back. You have to look forward.” This quote hits hard because it’s a reminder that we can’t stay stuck in the past, no matter how much we want to. It’s easy to get lost in memories or what could’ve been, but life keeps moving forward, and we have to do the same.
Mammoth Trip
One tradition my family does is to go to Mammoth Mountain the day after Christmas. Most of the time we pack on Christmas, and leave early in the morning on the 26th. We normally arrive to Mammoth around 4pm, and go to our favorite dinner spot called Vulcania. They serve the best pizza it melts in your mouth and the dough is pillowy soft and chewy. By the time we are done eating we are stuffed and ready to go to sleep. In the morning we wake up bright and early, go to skiing. We ski from 8:30 to 4 and when we get back we are exhausted. The next day was a powder day and it was awesome, by the end of the day I could barely walk. When I woke up the next day it was slowing but it was very windy. My family and I ended up skiing till 1 because the snow conditions got bad and we could barely see. The next day was a blue bird, but we had to leave. So we packed up and headed out. We got home around 6 to see that my grandma was cooking.
Dumbledore Quote
Dumbledore from Harry Potter is a very wise and intelligent man. This one quote from him really stuck out to me, “Happiness can be found even in the darkest of times, when one only remembers to turn on the light.” I loved this quote because he is explaining that even when you’re in the darkest of times, there will always be someone to turn on your light. There will always be one person that can turn on your light even when it turns off. It relates to me because whenever i’m feeling down or sad, my parents will always cheer me up and make me laugh.
My Hero
Somebody I look up to as my hero is my mom. My mom always is there for me when I need it, and helps me when i’m struggling. I think of my mom as my best friend, she always listens to me, comforts me, and i’m always learning something new from her. When i’m feeling sad, she always lifts me up and finds ways to make me laugh. She’s always cheering for me while playing volleyball, and acts like my number one cheerleader. I look up to my mom and I want to be just like her when I grow up.
Rad Reading-December
In December, I read a book by Jenny Han called The Summer I Turned Pretty. The Summer I Turned Pretty is about a girl, Belly Conklin, who spends every summer at a beach house with her family and her mom’s best friend’s sons, Conrad and Jeremiah Fisher. Belly’s always been the little sister, but this summer, she’s different. She starts noticing Conrad in a new way, and things between them get really complicated. The book is all about love, friendship, and figuring out who you are, especially when everything feels like it’s changing. It’s the perfect mix of summer fun and drama, and it’ll totally make you feel all the feels.
I loved this book because it was so real and relatable. The whole vibe of the summer, the beach house, and love triangle with Conrad and Jeremiah was so addicting. I could feel Belly’s confusion and the ups and downs of her relationships, and it made me remember how complicated growing up can be. The characters were so well written that I found myself really invested in their lives, and I couldn’t the book down.
My favorite character is Jeremiah because he’s super chill and always tries to make everyone feel better, even when things get messy. He’s like the peacemaker of the group. Like when he says, “We’re all just trying to figure it out,” it shows how he doesn’t get down by drama or take things too seriously. He’s the kind of person who makes you feel like everything’s going to be okay, no matter what. I love how he stays positive and supportive, especially when things get tense between Conrad and Belly. He’s just that guy who’s always there for everyone.
My favorite quote is, “love isn’t supposed to be perfect. It’s supposed to be real.” I love this because it’s so true. It reminds me that love isn’t about everything being flawless or easy all the time. It’s about the ups and downs, the messiness, and the moments that make it real. Like, sometimes you’re going to fight or feel uncertain, but that doesn’t mean it’s not love. It’s just real life.
Word of Intention for 2025
My word of intention for 2025 is patience. There are many reasons why but here at 3. I want to be more patient when doing my homework or working on a project so I don’t rush it and make it look sloppy. Next I want to be more patient when it comes to volleyball, during drills or at a tournament so I don’t miss or shank the ball. Finally I want to be more patient when it comes to hanging with my family, because all I want to do now is hang out with my friends. I want to soak up the time hanging out with my family in my childhood because i’m growing up.
Principal for the Day
Mrs. Tanikawa is out sick and they have asked me to step in as principal for the day. First I would change the dress code. I would let people wear shoes with no backs only in they have different shoes in their backpack for P.E. Then I would let people wear pjs because clothes pjs don’t effect how you learn. Next I would allow people to chew gum, because for some people they focus better when they are chewing gum. Next I would let people eat food in class because you can learn better when you have food in your stomach and food helps fuel your brain. Finally I would let people have their phones out in class only if their phone isn’t distracting them and let people take a brain brakes.
Rad Reading – November
In November, I read a book by Sharon M Draper called Out of My Mind. Out of My Mind is about an eleven year old girl named Melody who has Cerebral Palsy and can’t speak, walk, or write. Everyone underestimates her, by thinking she’s not smart, but in reality, shes a genius with a photographic memory. When she gets a special device that lets her communicate, she finally gets to show the world how brilliant she is. Even then, people don’t always treat her fairly, and she has to prove that she is just as capable as anyone else, if not more.
I loved Out of My Mind. It’s one of those books that makes you think differently about people and life. Melody is such a strong and smart character, even though everyone underestimates her, and you can’t help but root for her the whole way. The story is emotional and real, with moments that will make you laugh, cry, and get mad at how unfair things can be. If you like books that are deep but also really easy to get into, this one is perfect.
My favorite character is Melody because she’s so determined. Even though she can’t talk or walk, she never gives up on showing people how smart she is. One quote that shows this is when she says, “I’m here, and I’m not going to be invisible anymore.” This is such an amazing moment because it’s when she decides she’s done letting people ignore her. It shows how brave and determined she is to make her voice heard, even when it’s super hard.
My favorite quote is, “Words have always swirled around me like snowflakes, each one delicate and different, each one melting untouched in my hands.” I love this line because it shows how much Melody wants to express herself but can’t. It made me stop and think about how hard it would be to have all these thoughts and ideas but no way to share them.
What I am Thankful For
I am thankful for many things this year, but her are the three top things. One thing I am very thankful this year is my family. My family helps me through everything and I can always count on them. If I need to anyone to talk to about anything, I can always go to my mom and she would listen. I am also thankful that my parents are able to drive my friends and I all around town to make memories. I am also thankful for my volleyball team. I love my volleyball team with my whole heart, and I don’t know what I would do without them. Even though we goof around and go crazy, we still have so much fun at every practice and tournament. Lastly I am thankful for my friends. I am thankful that I can be able to hang out with them everyday at school and outside of school.
